Inter-Everything

How can an urbanism promotes an equitable 15-minute AV city?

As of September 2023, Phoenix has created or preserved 34,171 units of its goal of 50,000 units by 2030. Currently, the majority of created units are market rate or workforce rate. Under 20% of the total units are affordable (created or preserved units). Our design proposal seeks to enhance the quality of life for residents across South Central Village in Phoenix, Arizona. We propose an “Inter-Everything” approach to foster an equitable, shared 15-minute Autonomous Vehicle (AV) city. Under this concept, our primary goals are:

(1) To increase the stock of affordable, multigenerational housing and accompanying programs;

(2) To better connect residents across the region through multi-modal and equitable mobility options;

(3) To adopt environmentally-conscious strategies, especially to counter increasing heat severity, across the built environment.

Cluster & Loop: Introducing an Equitable City Development

Large-scale urban grids and the prevalence of garage housing in the market have resulted in significant inequality and affordability issues. By introducing autonomous vehicle technology, this project aims to reduce the reliance on private garage housing in the residential market and establish a people-centered urbanism.
