Olu Olu

Design by Recycling Waste Wood

How to minimize the waste and carbon emission by design?

"Olu Olu" means "light breeze" in Hawaiian. The owner, who has lived in Hawaii for many years, hopes to create a Hawaiian-style restaurant with a comfortable and natural dining experience. In this project, more than 80% of the wood dismantled on-site (renovated by the former owner) was recycled. It reduces the environmental impact of waste removal and transportation by extending the lifecycle of limited existing resources. As a result, furniture was also formed through close cooperation with artisans by combining recycled wood with local textures.
